What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, with Clare Stewart - The Mayor of Noosa

Episode #28

In this episode of The Aging Project Off Season Shelley meets Clare Stewart, a woman who has overcome incredible adversity. She’s a mother of three, a barrister, an author, and the mayor of Noosa, but her journey has been very different from the one she had planned. At the age of just 23, Clare was involved in an accident that changed her life completely. When out for her regular morning run, a garbage truck hit her, pinning her legs under its tyres for 37 excruciating minutes. What followed was six months in hospital, 37 operations, and years of recovery and rehabilitation.

Join Shelley as she chats to Clare about:

  • The day of her accident, and how each detail is etched into her memory forever
  • The incredible impact of family support in her recovery
  • How being a recipient of so much love and support during her recovery changed her sense of purpose
  • Why writing about her accident was so cathartic
  • Her role models, and why we should look to people close to us for inspiration
  • Her thoughts about women being able to ‘have it all’
  • Her advice for women going through a tough experience
